Based in Portland Oregon, the National College of Natural Medicine is the oldest accredited school of naturopathic medicine in the United States, and was founded in the 1950's. NCNM relies on the healing techniques from cultures worldwide to impart a solid foundation in the principles of natural healing to students. Students are trained to understand the healing powers of nature, identify the root cause of an illness, and treat the whole person. The doctor of naturopathic medicine degree program at NCNM is a four-year training that is designed to prepare students to successfully pass their state licensing examination, and work as holistic primary care practitioners. Coursework in naturopathy is comprised of themes that include introductory courses in naturopathy, human anatomy and physiology, disease diagnosis, and courses in organ systems. During their final year, students will complete the clinical component of their studies.
