Career Transition Grants

The National Institutes of Health provides career transition awards to postdoctoral fellows -- researchers who have completed their Ph.D. and have obtained funding to continue their research for a limited time -- in the health sciences, with the goal of helping them gain additional specialized expertise and transition to permanent positions.
  1. Award Amounts and Duration

    • Career transition award amounts vary, but as of 2010, the annual salary ranges between $75,000 and $180,000, plus fringe benefits. Researchers receive additional funds for supplies, equipment, travel to professional conferences and other expenses, with support provided for up to five years.
