Assistance Grants for Someone Whose Parent Is Disabled

To pay for college, there are many options for students whose parents are disabled. In addition to completing the FAFSA, visit the website Disability.gov for help in finding federal grants. Grants offered locally can be found through your state's website.
  1. Federal Grants

    • Completing the FAFSA makes students eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. All low-income students are eligible for the Pell Grant.

    National MS Scholarship Program

    • The National Multiple Sclerosis Society offers a scholarship for students with multiple sclerosis and students with at least one parent with multiple sclerosis. This grant can be found through Disability.gov.

Through the Looking Glass College Scholarships for Students of Parents with Disabilities

    • Through the Looking Glass is an organization that will give grants to graduating seniors and college students with at least one disabled parent. This grant is also listed on Disability.gov.

    State Grants

    • Your state may offer grants that fit your situation. One exceptional grant is the Tuition Exemption for Children of Disabled or Deceased Firefighters, Peace Officers, Game Wardens, and Employees of Correctional Institutions, which is available in Texas. More can be found through CollegeBoard.com's scholarship search or your state's website.
