How to Use Your Pin to Access Your FAFSA and Change a School Code

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required, if you want to be eligible for federal grants and loans to help pay for college. If you filled out the FAFSA and need to change the school code listed on your application, it takes little time to do so. But it's important, if you want to secure federal aid.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the FAFSA website and click "Start Here" to access the log-in screen.

    • 2

Enter your first and last name, Social Security Number and date of birth. Click "Next" to continue.

    • 3

Click "Make FAFSA corrections" and enter your PIN and password when prompted. Click "Next."

    • 4

Click "School Selection" at the top menu. You will see the school(s) you selected. You can add and remove school codes here.

    • 5

Click "Remove" next to a school name and code, if you don't want FAFSA information sent to this school. Having FAFSA information sent to a school doesn't obligate you to attend the school, so don't remove the school code, unless you are positive you will not attend the school.

Click "Add School" to add a school code. You can list up to 10 school codes at once. Enter the school code in the form next to "Federal school code" if you already know the code. If you do not know the code, enter the state, city and school name and click "Search" to find the code. Click "Add" next to the school you want.

Click "Sign & Submit" from the top menu, if you are finished making changes to your FAFSA. Review your FAFSA information, enter your PIN when prompted and submit your changes.
