Access the Internet and go to fafsa.ed.gov/. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid and this website will help you through the application process. This site checks your eligibility for all federal, state, and some institutional financial aid programs, including the Pell Grant.
Click on "Before you begin a FAFSA" on the left side of the screen. You'll need your Social Security Number, driver’s license, income tax returns, bank statements, and investment records. Pay attention to any deadlines. Establish a four digit pin number. It will be used to sign your documents and you'll need it to access your documents in the future.
Click on step 2 "Filling out a FAFSA." The system responds immediately to your answers and asks only the questions that pertain to your situation. If you need immediate help there is a "Need Help" icon at the bottom of every page.
Move on to step 3 by clicking on "FAFSA follow-up." Your application will be processed and a Student Aid Report will be sent to you school. Print the SAR out for your own records and as backup should your school not receive it electronically.
Inquire at the Financial Aid office at your school to determine how you'll receive your funds.
