Do you need a regents diploma in order to graduate from high school or can with regular diploma?

In some U.S. states, a Regents Diploma is required for high school graduation. In states like New York, students can choose between either a Regents or a local, or regular, high school diploma. Each type of diploma has its own requirements and some students opt for the Regents diploma because it meets the college admissions requirements for many four-year colleges and universities, even if their particular state doesn't require one.
