The Best Home Interior Design Schools

Interior design programs are often offered within art schools or schools that specifically specialize in the field, and almost all interior design degrees include training in both home and commercial design. With an emphasis on finding one's own creative outlet and aesthetic, interior design schools are based around a firm visual arts foundation, with additional classes at many that include culturally focused courses, such as anthropology, psychology, and art history. Upon completion of a bachelor's degree in interior design, most schools require that graduates sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam, which will provide them with professional certification in the field. Associate's and Master's degrees are also offered by many interior design and arts schools.
  1. New York School of Interior Design

    • The New York School of Interior Design is one of the most prestigious and well-known schools in the field. Founded in 1916, the school offers multiple Bachelor's, Master's (including a degree in Sustainable Interior Environments) and Associate's degrees in addition to post-graduate programs for aspiring designers. The school prides itself on preparing students for the NCIDQ exam, which licenses professional interior designers to practice their trade in both home and commercial settings and is essential in many states. Graduates go on to work in museums, galleries, architecture and design firms, and design journalism, among other trades.
