NC State University's College of Design offers programs concentrating on architecture, graphic design, landscape architecture and of course, industrial design. Each academic year the Department of Industrial Design has about 100 students enrolled in the undergraduate program and 26 students in the graduate program. According to the school website, the program's areas of design investigation include furniture, housewares, appliances, transportation, tools, farm equipment, medical/electronic instruments, human interface, and recreational support equipment.

Appalachian State University offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Design. This degree has two concentrations, one in product design and one in furniture design. The program teaches the essentials for those who wish to be professional designers. Some of the classes are taught in studios, which allows students to present their work and receive feedback from their peers. In addition to studio classes students take classes in design drawing, materials and processes, solid modeling and computer-assisted drafting.

The University of Phoenix's Charlotte Campus offers options for students interested in industrial design. According to the school's website, the University of Phoenix was founded in 1976 by John Sperling. Since then it has expanded to one of the nations largest private universities. There are different degree levels, such as bachelor's or associate's degrees, and concentrations available so a student can be sure to find a program in industrial design that will work best for them.
