Schools in Illinois that Offer a Master of Nursing Degree

Prospective nurses in Illinois with a bachelor's of science degree can advance their nursing career by earning a master's degree in nursing from an Illinois university. Some universities offer online programs as well. If you plan on working in a clinic or hospital setting and do not have much work experience in either, doing internships and other on-campus activities can provide additional training.

    • The University of Illinois at Chicago's (UIC) College of Nursing offers a traditional Master of Science degree in nursing. Each of the specialties can be studied at all University of Illinois campuses. Most students complete the MS degree in two to four years. UIC master of science nursing students take a combination of online and on-campus classes. However, the College of Nursing does not offer a complete online program. Students must attend at least a portion of their classes in person. Tuition for the program is $4,436 for residents and $10,435 for non-residents per 12 semester credits as of June 2010.

    Loyola University

    • Loyola University offers a Master of Science degree in nursing with graduate majors in a wide range of disciplines such as adult, cardiac, family and women's health, oncology, and acute care. A registered nurse (RN) can make a smooth transition to an MS in nursing with Loyola's RN to MSN program that entails 29 to 41 credits of your choice of specialization. The various specialization options allow nurses to choose between clinical nurse specialist and adult nurse practitioner courses of study. Tuition for the program is $860 per credit hour for all students as of June 2010.

    Chamberlain College of Nursing

    • The Chamberlain College of Nursing in Illinois offers an online Master's of Science in nursing for registered nurses with BS degrees in nursing. Choose between the educator and the executive track depending on your career goals. Chamberlain is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Finish your MS in two years, taking 6 semester credits for three semesters per year. Tuition for the program is $575 per credit hour for all online students as of June 2010.
