Health Care Administration Colleges in Ontario

Students preparing for a career in health administration have several options in Ontario, including public colleges offering targeted career training programs throughout the province, universities awarding academic degrees, and a system of for-profit colleges that focuses specifically on careers in the health care field.
  1. Public Colleges

    • The public college system in Ontario offers certificates in medical office administration that range from 42-week accelerated courses to sessions that last two academic years. The courses are offered at campuses across the public colleges' 28-college system. Application is not generally competitive, but they are often wait-listed so they may require advanced registration. The two-year curriculum for health administration program includes instruction in biomedical sciences, health informatics, health record systems, medical classification systems and coding, as well as data collection, statistical analysis and presentation. Graduates from the two-year course should be prepared to pass the Canadian Health Information Management Association national certification examination. The programs have intensive schedules and are focused on office administration.
