The Difference Between AACSB & ACBSAP

Institutions of higher education must be accredited to maintain a legitimate status among other colleges and universities.
  1. AACSB

    • The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business began in 1916 to serve as a membership organization for business schools. The association released its first standards to improve business schools in 1919, and today, "the AACSB Accreditation Standards are used as the basis to evaluate a business school's mission, operations, faculty qualifications and contributions, programs, and other critical areas," according to the group's website.

    ACBSAP

    • The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs is another accreditation association for business education. Founded in 1988 in a suburb of Kansas City, the association grants accreditation "based on the mission of the institution and of the respective unit, an accreditation that acknowledged and emphasized quality in teaching and learning outcomes."

    Differences

    • The ACBSAP has 828 member schools and 8,000 individual memberships while the AACSB has 596 member institutions. ACBSAP accredits schools based on which type of degree they provide while AACSB accredits based on the institution or a specialized need.
