Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement

A reciprocal borrowing agreement is an agreement used between colleges and universities. It offers students and staff opportunities for borrowing privileges from the library resources of other educational institutions.
  1. Function

    • Reciprocal borrowing gives a person with a valid library card from a participating library, college or university the privilege to use other libraries' online information. The libraries must be included within the reciprocal borrowing agreement.

    Features

    • Typical reciprocal borrowing agreements only allow these privileges to those in good standing with their home library. Interested individuals must fill out an application at their home library. This policy is valid only in libraries with reciprocal borrowing agreements; not all libraries offer this option.

    Benefits

    • Reciprocal borrowing makes research easier for students and academic professionals, as they have access to information from several libraries without having to travel.
