Orthodontic Nurse Training

Although not a widely recognized title in the United States, orthodontic nurses are quite common in the UK. They must graduate from training programs to prepare them to become useful assistants to dentists, as well as attend to patients' needs when they are having procedures done.
  1. Certificate

    • To become a practicing orthodontic nurse, you must obtain a certificate to show that you completed a training program from an accredited school. This certificate is normally given through the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN), the most widely accepted awarding body in the UK.

    GDC Registration

    • As most orthodontic nurses begin their studies as dental nurses who wish to branch out into a new field, many are already registered with the General Dental Council (GDC). However, if you are not registered, you must do so before being granted a certificate in orthodontic nursing.

    Employer Support

    • Dental nurses who undergo their training while still being employed part- or full-time must have the written permission of their employer to study. In addition, they must keep a record of the student's workplace activities to add to the record of experience that will be kept on file, along with test scores.
