How to Train for SEMA

The Federal Emergency Management Agency offers training programs for the disaster workforce that provides emergency services after disasters through their Emergency Management Training Institute. These training courses are offered to federal, state, local workers and tribal organizations as well as volunteer organizations and other federal agencies. Training is also offered to public and private sectors to assist them with preparing for disasters and their impact on the American public. SEMA is the acronomyn for State Emergency Management Agency. You may contact your state's agency for training information or register for EMI's online courses.

      Contact your state's emergency management agency to see what training opportunities they may offer.

      Register for online training as an alternative with the Emergency Management Institute. Visit their website for enrollment information, course listing and application.

      Attend courses on campus. You may apply for EMI's resident program in Emmitsburg, MD. First read the eligibility requirements for each course. Complete an application online. Apply early as enrollment is limited.

      Enroll in their Independent Study Program as yet another alternative program EMI offers. In this program, you can study at your own pace. These courses are free of charge.
