How to Add Endorsements to a Teaching License in Ohio

Adding endorsements to your Ohio teaching license will open up many doors for your career. These endorsements allow you to teach additional grade levels and subjects in Ohio public schools. To receive these endorsements, you will need to have an active teaching license or certificate. In addition, you will need to complete courses from a certified institution of higher learning and pass the Praxis Specialty Area Exam for your desired endorsements.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact any accredited university or college in the state, and inquire about the endorsement classes offered by their education department. These classes are required to receive the teaching endorsement.

    • 2

Sign-up for the Praxis Specialty Area Exam. These are administered at regular intervals, and at convenient testing locations.

    • 3

Visit the Ohio Department of Education website and update your educator profile. It may take up to two weeks. The results of your exam and courses are validated, before you receive the endorsement.
