Compare programs based on whether they have American Bar Association approval. Some law firms require this type of approval of their paralegals. As such, a school with ABA approval may cost slightly more than a non-ABA school. The ability to choose more law firms as a possible place of employment can justify paying a higher tuition.
Look at the length of the programs you are considering. Some programs can last several months while others can last two years. The length of the program directly relates to the amount of work and the comprehensive nature of the schooling. The cost should reflect the length of the program. Also, keep in mind that not every student needs a multi-year program; students with an undergraduate law degree or degree in paralegal studies may only need an abbreviated course to attain the necessary certification.
Research the faculty of each program. The quality of the faculty reflects the quality of the program. Well-known law professors have a better handle on the subjects and can provide valuable resources to their students including impressive guest speakers. This, in turn, provides an opportunity to network with important individuals in the legal and paralegal field.
Research the career services at each school and the rate of employment for recent graduates. Higher employment rates and better career service resources such as alumni-networking events and readily available advisers can justify a higher tuition rate.
Compare facilities at the schools. The quality of the library and computer labs are reflected in the tuition. If these items have little significance to you (for example, if you plan on attaining your certification online or plan on taking a short program), you can pay for a school with lower tuition that does not offer these facilities.
