How to Get Receipt of NCLEX

All nursing school graduates are required to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to obtain their registration and license to practice nursing. The NCLEX exam takes approximately five hours to complete and your results determine whether or not you are eligible to receive your nursing certification and begin working as a registered nurse in your state. Before you can take the NCLEX you have to register; once you register you receive a receipt of NCLEX registration that you must provide when scheduling an appointment to take the exam.

Instructions

    • 1

Register for the NCLEX by visiting the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) website, ncsbn.org. On the website you will find phone numbers that you can use to call and register for the NCLEX or you can register and pay online.

    • 2

Provide your name, date of birth, address, Social Security Number, graduation date and college and your contact information. You must pay for the exam using a credit card online or over the phone or by mailing a paper check to the NCSBN.

    • 3

Obtain your NCLEX receipt in the mail once your registration information and payment is accepted. This receipt is called the Acknowledgement of Receipt of NCLEX Examination Registration. It shows that you are registered and eligible for the exam; you cannot schedule a date and time to take the NCLEX until you have this receipt in your possession.
