Henley-Putnam University is the only accredited academic institution that specializes exclusively in intelligence, counter-terrorism and protection. Originally called the California University of Protection and Intelligence Management, in 2007 the school took its new name from Revolutionary War figures Colonel David Henley and General Israel Putnam. It was selected by "G.I. Jobs" magazine as one of America's top military-friendly schools in both 2009 and 2010. Students come from the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, Army and Coast Guard as well as law enforcement, protection and intelligence communities. Henley-Putnam University offers accredited Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Intelligence Management, Terrorism and Counter-terrorism Studies and Protection Management, and a Doctorate program in Strategic Security. The school has been approved for use of Veterans Administration benefits and is affiliated with the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support program. Founded in 1991 as the American Military University, the American Public University System (APUS) boasts professors in leadership at the State Department, Department Of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency and United Nations. Western Governors University was selected as a "Top 20 Military Friendly School" for 2010 by "Military Advanced Education" magazine. The school offers online programs that have been approved for GI Bill and VA education benefits. Program offerings include a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology specializing in Security, Master of Science in Information Security and Assurance and Master of Business Administration in Information Technology Management. Saint Leo University operates continuing education centers on over 20 military bases nationwide. The school's credit transfer program allows for movement among Saint Leo military campuses and application of other college credits to a Saint Leo degree. The online Master of Business Administration program is available with a specialization in Information Security Management. The school is a member of the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program. This is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. Institutions of higher learning in the United States can voluntarily agree with the VA to contribute up to half of the tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The VA will match the same amount as the institution.
