Research the school of your choice. Colleges like Boston University and the University of Minnesota offer online programs for a degree in sound recording. Other non-universities, such as Cleveland Institute of Electronics and the International Academy of Design and Technology offer degrees as well.
Create a list of schools, and narrow them down based on prestige, success stories, tuition price and instructional methods. Use this list to make a final selection on which school you'd like to receive a degree from.
Apply to the school of your choice. There will be an application along with an application fee. Fill this out and be sure to turn it in well before the upcoming semester's deadline. By getting the application in early, you stand a better chance of being admitted.
Wait for your materials to be reviewed. Typically, you're given a set time-line in which you can expect to hear a decision on your admission. Many schools will provide a link that allows you to check your application status from day to day instead of waiting for a letter in the mail.
Register for courses once admitted. There will be certain reading materials and music software that you'll have to purchase, so be sure you're prepared once classes begin.
