Determine the type of degree you wish to pursue. There are a variety of different paralegal programs that result in different degrees. The common paralegal degrees offered online are paralegal certificate programs, an associate degree in paralegal studies and a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies. The certificate program is the shortest program and can take between seven and 17 months. The associate degree program can usually be completed in 15 to 41 months, and the bachelor's degree program can be completed in about three to seven years. The length of time it takes to earn each degree depends on how many courses you take at a time. Some schools will offer a master's degree in paralegal studies, but this requires that you first obtain a bachelor's degree in any subject and it may require a specific grade point average from your bachelor's degree studies to pursue.
