Online Schools for Mathematics

Attending school online is an easier way to get the higher education you seek. Online schools give you the opportunity to take classes on your own time and pace, allowing you to be able to work and fulfill your other responsibilities. Students who are interested in obtaining a Bachelor's or Master's degree in math can do so by enrolling in an online degree program.
  1. Western Governor's University

    • Western Governor's University offers online programs for people interested in obtaining a Bachelor's or Master's degree to teach math. The Bachelor of Arts programs prepare students to teach mathematics at the middle school level, or both the middle and high school level. Students can choose from the Mathematics Content (5-9) or Mathematics Content (5-12) programs. The Bachelor's degree program with the middle school option (5-9) consists of 120 credits, while the middle and high school option (5-12) consists of 127 credits. The online math program at Western Governor's University is broken up into terms, with each term lasting for six months. The work can be completed at your own pace. Students will be required to complete a 12-20 week session o f student teaching at some point during the program. WGU offers three different options for the Master's program. You can choose the K-8 option that enables you to teach kindergarten through eighth grade, the middle school option (5-9), or the middle and high school option 5-12. To enroll in either of these programs you must possess a Bachelor's degree.

    Ottawa University

    • Ottawa University has an online degree program for those interested in obtaining a Bachelor's degree in math. Graduates of the program will be prepared to take on careers in teaching, computer science, finance and business. The program will be updated in July 2011 and include courses such as Calculus I and II, Abstract Algebra, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations.

    University of Illinois

    • The University of Illinois (online.uillinois.edu) has a Bachelor's degree program for students interested in mathematical sciences. The curriculum in the mathematical sciences program prepares students for math careers in research or teaching. As of June 2011, courses in the program include Linear Algebra, Advanced Calculus and Mathematical Statistics. A total of 60 hours, or credits, as well as 15 general elective credits must be successfully completed in order to obtain the degree.

    University of Washington

    • The University of Washington (amathonline.uw.edu) offers an online graduate degree program in applied mathematics. Students from all of the country can enroll in the program. Teachers from traditional courses also teach the online courses. If taken full time, the Master's in Applied Mathematics program can be completed in one year. Students can also take classes part-time; however you must complete the program in at least six years. A minimum of 36 credits must be taken to obtain the degree in Applied Mathematics.
