Online master's programs in SLP typically vary in length from 2-1/2 to 3 years, and generally include a 4 to 10 week clinical coursework component. (See Reference 1)
Online SLP programs may include online courses, discussion boards, projects, exams, and independent study projects. While an online course may require you to participate at a specific time, you can complete the other components at your own learning pace.
If you're already working full or part time, or have family responsibilities, the online format allows you to fit your academic activities around your home and work life.
SLP programs can be very competitive within a geographic area, so a student may have to move out of state to earn her degree. Online programs allow you to pursue your educational goals without leaving home.
Most states require a master's degree for licensure as an SLP. After you earn your online degree, you're qualified for the clinical fellowship experienced required for a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
