What Types of Online Degrees Are Available?

In our technological age, online degree programs are becoming very popular. Many accredited universities offer a variety of programs that are convenient, easy to access, and lead to the degree you've always wanted to obtain. There are obviously quite a few choices out there, so it's easier to decide what you want to study after you decide the degree level you're looking for. Another way to start your research is to determine what degrees your chosen career may require.
  1. Associate's Degree Programs

    • Associate's degrees are available online, and most degree programs include Associate of Arts (A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.), and Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.). Choose from a variety of disciplines, including business, technology, criminal justice, accounting, and even paralegal studies. For example, University of Phoenix, at its Axia College division, offers associate's degrees in information technology, business, elementary education and health-care administration. Classes are offered entirely online, or you can take classes in-person at one of the school's 200 locations nationwide.

    Bachelor's Degree

    • If you are looking for a bachelor's degree, online-focused universities are also a good choice for Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), and even Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) programs. The University of Phoenix offers B.S. degrees in a wide range of areas, from arts and sciences to business, education, information technology and nursing. American Intercontinental University has B.F.A. programs in web and digital design, and Walden University also offers B.S. programs in a variety of subject areas. Some of these institutions even offer numerous specialties within degree programs, such as a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) with a concentration in accounting.

    Master's Degree Programs

    • Many online universities offer Master of Science (M.S.), Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Education (M.Ed.), and Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degrees. Strayer, Capella and DeVry Universities are just a few of the institutions that offer advanced degrees online.

    Doctorate

    • Some institutions offer Doctorate (Ph.D.) programs online. The availability of a Ph.D. program depends on what kind of program it is. Some Ph.D. programs require you to be present and some do not. For example, Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offers a Ph.D. in Computer Science in which participants attend classes both in person and online. On the other hand, Jones International University offers a doctoral program in business administration that is entirely online.
