The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is the only medical school in the entire state of Rhode Island. It opened in 1975 and specializes in both medical education and biomedical research. The school is affiliated with seven nearby teaching hospitals, allowing students significant hands-on experience. Each year, the school awards about 90 doctor of medicine degrees.

Dartmouth Medical School, located in central New Hampshire, is the country's fourth oldest medical school. It's home to 2,142 clinical and research faculty and has numerous departments for students wishing to specialize. Among its many centers are the ALS Center, C. Everett Koop Institute and Center for Immunotherapy.
Harvard's Medical School, founded in 1782, is another of the nation's best-regarded medical programs. Each year, the program admits about 300 students. Under the guidance of the school's 1,458 full-time staff members, students do work in departments such as biological chemistry and molecular pharmacology, cell biology, and neurobiology.
University Medical Center at Princeton has been a teaching college for about 30 years. Originally established in 1919, it has a partnership with Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, one of the leading centers for pediatrics in the nation. The medical center offers more than 20 clinical programs ranging from endoscopy to breast health care.
The University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine opened in 1765 and remains one of the premier medical schools in the country. Each year, the school is home to more than 750 students who work with its 1,700 full-time faculty members. Located in the heart of Philadelphia, the school sends more than 1,000 residents and fellows to local hospitals each year.
The Yale School of Medicine, located in New Haven, Connecticut, was founded in 1810, making it one of the oldest medical schools in the U.S. Along with 28 different departments, Yale also is home to Child Study Center, a world-renowned center for pediatrics, as well as the Yale Cancer Center. Each student must complete a thesis based on original research to earn a degree.
