Drug cards are a tool nursing students use to help them understand and memorize facts about different medications. Although there is a growing movement to have these cards pre-made and universal for all nursing students, many schools still require personal, handwritten cards for each student. The information on these cards varies among the different institutions and teachers who assign them. In nearly all cases, however, the information presented must be thorough and succinct enough to fit on a large note card. Nearly all nursing drug cards will include the following information about a drug: Trade Name and Generic Name, Drug Classification, Dosages and How Administered, Effects of the Drug, Contraindications, and Nursing Implications.

1
Draw a line horizontally across the top of the card with the ruler and the dark pen, leaving just enough room for you to legibly write the name of the drug. Make a card for each required drug.
-
2
Vertically divide the card into three sections underneath the title line.
-
-
3
Turn the card over and repeat. You should have six sections total.
-
4
Write the category in dark pen at the top of each section.

5
Fill in as much information in each category as required using the fine point pen. Don't be afraid to use personal and medical shorthand, as long as it is consistent and legible.
