Choose the right online college. University of Phoenix, Herzing University and Dover Business College all have online programs that prepare you for the LPN certification exam. You can also choose among online technical schools, vocational schools, community colleges and medical schools.
Make sure that your state nursing board will approve your chosen training program. Contact your State's Board of Nursing for the list of approved programs.
Enroll at your chosen school. This generally entails filling out an application online. Apply for financial aid so that you can get help with college tuition, text books and laboratory expenses. You may be able to do this through your institution's financial aid office or completely online. Many schools have advisers you can contact, to help you through this process.
Take your clinical and general education courses. Some online students may receive training at a hospital, medical center or a clinical practice. You will learn anatomy, physiology, pediatrics, obstetrics nursing, pharmacology and nutrition.
Contact your state's Board of Nursing to register to take the necessary examination, upon graduation. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination, (NCLEX-PN). Eligibility requirements vary by state. Without this licensing, you won't be able to get a job as an LPN.
Sit for your LPN examination. The NCLEX-LPN covers four major categories: safe and effective care management, health promotion and maintenance, psychosocial integrity and physiological integrity.
