Get a degree. You must have graduated from a certified LPN school in Missouri. The LPN program takes about a year to complete. Courses are offered by vocational nursing schools, community colleges and technical schools. Be prepared for the cost. Avila University, for example, charges $9750 for their LPN program.
Pass the LPN exam. The exam is called the NCLEX-PN and covers four subject areas: physiological integrity, psychosocial integrity, health promotion and maintenance and safe effective care environment.
Have the right mental attitude. LPN's must be caring and sympathetic and be willing to work with people who are often not feeling well and unpleasant. LPN's can't be afraid of or sickened by hospital settings. Patients can be ungrateful or combative and medical settings are often stressful. The LPN must be able to work in a stressful environment.
Register with the State of Missouri. After you have graduated and passed the exam, register with the Division of Professional Registration and the Board of Nursing. The average LPN in Missouri makes $38,500 a year. The job market for nursing is robust.
