Located in Netherlands-Antilles, the University of Sint Eustatius School of Medicine (USESOM) offers over 100 clinical education sites within the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Sixty of those are offered in 30 American states. Clinical rotations last 48 weeks, beginning after completion of the basic sciences program at the USESOM campus. In addition to general medicine, USESOM offers a premedical program as well as an elective specialty in undersea and hyperbaric medicine.
Prospective students must have a bachelor's degree or have completed 90 semester credit hours to be considered for admission. Prerequisite coursework includes chemistry, statistics, computer science, physiology, microbiology, English and a foreign language. MCAT scores are highly recommended, as those without them are required to justify not taking the examination. Highly successful students may be admitted directly after completing high school.
While no financial assistance is available, tuition is $7,800 per semester during the basic sciences sequence and $8,400 per semester during clinical rotations, as of 2010. Prospective students may apply online.
