The department of surgery offers residency, medical student and fellowship programs. In 2005, Duke opened their Surgical Education and Activities Lab to train students and faculty with simulation equipment to ensure the safest possible training methods with no risk to patients. The 200 strong faculty team publishes hundreds of research papers in peer-reviewed journals every year. The surgical team works to bring their discoveries quickly from the labs into practice.
