All applicants must hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited university. Every applicant must complete one full year of biological science, two years of chemistry, including organic chemistry, and one year of physics. Stanford also recommends taking a foreign language, behavioral science, calculus, physical chemistry and biochemistry. All courses must be accompanied by the required labs.
All applicants must take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) before applying. Your MCAT scores must not be more than four years old. If you decide to retake the MCAT after applying to Stanford, you must notify the admissions department. Failure to notify the admissions department of an MCAT retake will result in your application being reviewed with the current MCAT score on file.
All applicants are required to submit an application to Stanford University School of Medicine. Once your application is received, you will receive an email confirming the receipt of your application. It is very important to have a working email address, because most of the communication between you and Stanford is via email.
Stanford requires a series of essay questions to be completed along with information about applicants' personal background and professional experience. Stanford also requires three to six letters of recommendation. Letters should be from professors who can attest to your academic achievements and your potential as a physician. Letters of recommendation can also come from advisers, supervisors, and clinical and volunteer professionals.
Every applicant is considered for an interview. Applicants who are selected for interviews will be notified between November and March. The admissions office will inform all applicants whether they were selected for an interview or denied an interview.
