When looking for a university that teaches the practice of physical therapy, choose an accredited school; accredited schools meet the standards of CAPTE (The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education).       Enroll in a university offering physical therapy courses. Choose a school accredited by CAPTE, an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and Council for Higher Education that reviews the educational process of universities teaching physical therapy courses.

      Pay the tuition required by the university; the tuition amount varies from school to school.

      Complete school and earn your degree. Upon graduation, your university should provide you with information on how to obtain a licensure application. A licensure application is necessary in order to take the physical therapy license exam.

      Register online to take the licensing exam (see Resources). Alternatively, you may contact the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners and register directly. The board may be contacted at (512) 305-6900.

      Take the exam at a Prometric Testing Center. You will be given your test date and site location when you register for the exam. If you pass the exam, it will be reviewed by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners and you will receive your license if you pass the test.
