Florida Juris Doctorate Programs

Florida is home to 11 schools that offer juris doctorate (JD) programs accredited by the American Bar Association. The JD program is a total of 90 credit hours with a prerequisite of 60 core curriculum hours. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to apply for the Florida Bar Examination.
  1. Ave Maria School of Law

    • Ave Maria School of Law is located in the southwest region of Florida. Classified as a private, Catholic, national law school, the school offers a full-time program which focuses on integrating religion, ethics and law into the curriculum. Originally founded in 1999 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the school relocated and opened in Naples, Florida, in August 2009.

    Barry University-Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law

    • Barry University is a private, Catholic law school. It offers a three-year, full-time program during the daytime and a four-year, part-time evening program at the central Florida location. The Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law opened its campus in 1999 and is sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Order of Sisters located in Adrian, Michigan.

    Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University

    • The College of Law at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) relocated to Orlando, Florida, in 2006. FAMU is a public, co-educational law school that offers a daytime, full-time program and a four-year, part-time evening program. The first class was admitted to the FAMU College of Law program in 1951.

    Florida Coastal Law School

    • Florida Coastal School of Law is located in northeast Florida and is a private, independent law school. The institute opened in 1996 and offers both a full-time and part-time curriculum for law students. Also, the college offers a study abroad program during the summer in collaboration with the University of Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand located in France.

    Florida State University

    • Florida State University (FSU) College of Law is located in Tallahassee, Florida’s state capital. The public College of Law opened in 1966 and is a three-year program. The students have the option to apply for summer abroad programs at the University of Oxford in England, Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia or Eramus University located in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

    University of Miami

    • University of Miami (UM) School of Law is located in the southeast region of Florida. In 1928, the school of law opened the doors for the inaugural class in Coral Gables, Florida, offering a three-year bachelor’s degree.     • Stetson University is a private university located in Gulfport, located on the west coast of Florida. Originally founded in 1900 in Deland, Florida, the college relocated to Gulfport in 1954. Stetson offers a full-time and part-time curriculum. The part-time program is at the Tampa satellite campus, which opened in 2004.
