The Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University established one of the first international and comparative law programs in the country, according to the school's website. The school houses the Center for Pacific Rim Legal Studies and The Law Institute of the Americas, which offer research opportunities to students in the area of international law. The Dedman School of Law also publishes two international law journals which have worldwide circulation: "The International Lawyer" and the "Law and Business Review of the Americas." Founded in 1989, Texas Wesleyan University School of Law offers students a choice between full- and part-time enrollment. The school offers several courses in international law, according to its published course list, including international litigation, international business transactions, and refugee and asylum law. The school is ranked in the fourth and lowest tier of all U.S. law schools by U.S. News & World Report. Texas Wesleyan enrolls approximately 250 new students each year, and admitted full-time students have an average LSAT score of 153 and an average undergraduate GPA of 3.21.

The University of North Texas intends to open a new law school in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area. The proposed law school will be housed in the Old Municipal Building in Dallas, the former Dallas City Hall and Police Headquarters. On June 19, 2009, the governor of Texas signed a bill establishing the law school as the first public law school in North Texas and appropriated $5 million in start-up funding. The school aims to begin accepting applications in 2011 and enrolling its first class in fall 2012.
