Bridal Garter Directions

A bride wears a bridal garter around her thigh. Traditionally, the groom pulls the garter from the bride's leg once they are married, and then he throws it for the men attending the ceremony to catch. This is the masculine version of the bouquet toss. Making your own bridal garter for your special day allows you to experiment with different fabric colors and textures to create a memorable bridal accessory.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure around the thick part of your upper thigh.

    • 2

Snip a length of elastic from the roll, measuring a little over half of the measurement of your thigh.

    • 3

Snip a length of silk fabric matching the measurement of your thigh. Make the fabric about three inches wide.

    • 4

Lay the silk fabric with the print side facing downward. Squeeze a thin line of fabric glue along one of the long edges of the fabric.

    • 5

Roll the fabric to adhere the glued edge to the opposite edge. Let it dry for 10 minutes. This creates a sort of "tube" of fabric.

    • 6

Feed the end of the elastic through one of the silk tube's openings. Scrunch the fabric as you pull the elastic through the other end.

    • 7

Squeeze a small line of glue along one end of the elastic, and connect it to the other end to form an elastic circle.

    • 8

Adjust the fabric scrunched around the elastic, and connect the two opened ends by adding a spot of glue to one of the ends of the fabric. Let the homemade garter dry for an hour before wearing it.
