John Marshall Law School requires aspiring lawyers to complete an electronic law school application and submit it no later than March 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester. Along with the electronic application, the school requires a personal statement which is approximately two to four pages, double spaced. The personal statement should discuss topics such as community service, personal achievements and leadership skills. Law School Admission Test or LSAT scores are also required before applications are considered. Undergraduate transcripts are part of the admission requirements, but sent to the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) where the law school will obtain it. Letters of recommendation are optional, but the law school accepts up to five letters. A resume is also optional.
Students who are not interested in a law degree can still attend the John Marshall Law School. Prospective students who want to earn either a master of science (MS) or master of law (LLM) degrees have different admission requirements than those seeking a law degree. Besides the application, transcripts and personal statement, prospective students must submit a writing sample. The writing sample should be a publication such as a research paper or published article. A resume is also required. The application for the master's program should be sent by August 1 for the fall and December 1 for the spring semesters.

Transfer law students must complete the admission requirements of prospective students. Law students applying to attend the law school as visiting students are required to complete the visiting student application form.
