Law Schools Near Poway, California

Nestled in the hills north of San Diego, California is the city of Poway. It's home to the third largest school district in north inland San Diego County, and boasts more than 50,000 residents. While there are no law schools in Poway itself, there are quite a few in near by San Diego as well as slightly further away in Los Angeles.
  1. Western Sierra Law School

    • This San Diego school is designed to be an alternative to traditional law schools, and is geared toward working professionals. Graduates of Western Sierra meet legal guidelines for taking the California Bar Exam, and are conferred a degree of Juris Doctor. The school doesn't emphasize any single area of law. Instead, it offers both introductory and advanced courses in every major legal area. Western Sierra welcomes students who already have an associate's or bachelor's degree and have taken the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).

    California Western School of Law

    • This independent law school in San Diego has been teaching law for more than 80 years. A traditional law school, it emphasizes communication, problem solving, analytical thinking skills, and writing. California Western offers classes that allow students to specialize in one area of law; they can choose to concentrate on intellectual property and telecommunications, criminal justice, international law, or health law and policy. Part of the school's mission is to use the law to solve not only individuals' problems, but those of society as well.

    University of San Diego School of Law

    • This school is a member of the Order of the Coif, an honor that only the most distinguished of schools can attain. Based on a survey of 2009 graduates, within nine months of graduation, 94 percent of them were employed. Education doesn't stop at graduation at this school, as it offers continuing education for not only alumni, but the entire San Diego community. Students can focus on a law degree, or be part of the concurrent degree program that allows students to earn two degrees at the same time, such as a Juris Doctor and an MBA.

    University of California Los Angeles

    • The University of California Los Angeles Law School is proud of being the youngest top law school in the nation. This school has been, and continues to be, committed to bridging the gap between law school and real-world reality, offering concentrations in mergers and aquisitions, environmental law, and workers' rights. UCLA also founded the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy, a think tank that offers people a chance to get togther to solve issues in an arena free ideological biases.
