As one of the leading educational institutions in the United States, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has a deep investment in training young professionals working in many high-tech fields. MIT offers master's degree programs designed to prepare students for occupations in science, architecture, city planning, engineering, finance, and business administration.
  1. Science

    • Offered by The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, MIT's Master of Science degree program allows students to study a specific research area intensively. Areas of specialization include Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Coastal Engineering, Environmental Microbiology, Geotechnical Engineering and Geomechanics, Hydrology and Hydroclimatology, Mechanics of Materials and Structures and Transportation. Architecture

    • Also known as MArch, MIT's Master of Architecture degree program trains students wishing to achieve licensed registration as architects. Applicants are assessed individually, but all should exhibit intellectual accomplishment, enthusiasm, discipline, responsibility, imagination, insight and an open mind. The department desires applicants from a variety of backgrounds and judges them based on their capacity to achieve results in projects of personal meaning. Course instruction combines lectures, case studies and practical experience to familiarize students with theories of planning and their implementation in a professional setting. Workshops and studio courses emphasize real-world planning issues, giving students a realistic portrayal of the field. Students benefit from an education in microeconomics, data management, spatial analysis, and quantitative reasoning. Admission is highly competitive, and applicants should possess strong academic backgrounds, supplemented by some practical experience working in the field.
