How to Write a CV for Binghamton University

Your curriculum vitae (CV) should act as a marketing tool in order to highlight aspects of your background you wish to draw to an employer's attention. The resume should be well detailed and easily legible. To get into Binghamton University's graduate school, you must create a CV then fill out the provided cover sheet. The CV acts as a first impression and it should reflect your academic and personal life.

  1. Access the Cover Sheet

      Fill out the cover sheet. Go to the Binghamton University website (see References), click on the "Academics" tab then click on the "The Graduate School."

      Click on the "Prospective Students" and "How to Apply" links, then click the "Personal Statement & Resume/CV" link. From here, download the Resume/CV PDF form.

      Print and fill out the cover sheet. Write in your name, student ID, date of birth, program of study, degree and year.

      Write your name, Binghamton ID number, major code, semester of your application and your contact information. Start a new section by listing your educational degrees and certificates in reverse chronological order. This section should also mention your past professional and volunteer experience.

      Include information that is relevant to your field of work. Mention your teaching and research experience, fellowships, works in print and licensing. Make sure that the CV is no more than two pages long.

      Print the CV. Attach the cover sheet to the CV with a paper clip or staple.
