Colleges in Ohio for Molecular Biology

Ohio has 19 four-year universities throughout the state. Out of this number, 13 are public universities and 6 are private. When considering an undergraduate or graduate degree in molecular biology, there are really only a few schools to consider.
  1.   Ohio Northern University -- Ada

    • The Getty College of Arts and Sciences of the Ohio Northern University offers a bachelor's of science degree in biology, molecular biology, forensic biology, environmental studies and clinical laboratory science. The molecular biology program covers courses in general biology, chemistry, genetics, molecular biology, human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, cell biology, and laboratory courses. Admission requirements for admission as an undergraduate include a $30 application fee, a high school transcript, SAT (scholastic aptitude test) score, letter of recommendation and a personal statement must be completed. The tuition fee for the molecular biology program is $34,140 for 2011 to 2012.

    Kenyon College

    • Kenyon College is a small liberal arts college located in Gambier, Ohio and has approximately 1600 students as of 2011. It offers a program in biochemistry and molecular biology. Coursework for the molecular biology degree includes classes in molecular biology and genomics, gene manipulation, biochemistry, chemical kinetics and thermodynamics. You will also need to take classes in related disciplines that include introduction to chemistry, biophysical and medicinal chemistry, nanoscience, materials chemistry and organic chemistry, The tuition fee for this program is $39,420 per year as of 2011.

    Ohio State University

    • Ohio State University offers an interdisciplinary graduate program in molecular and cellular biology through its department of biological sciences. The degrees for this graduate program include a master's of science and a doctorate degree. The core courses for the degrees are focused on biological sciences, chemistry and biochemistry, plant biology, and computer science. The admission requirements include a background in both computer science and biology, a bachelor's degree or advanced degree from an accredited college, and a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0. The tuition fee is $389 per credit unit for residents and $720 per credit unit for non-residents as of 2011.

    Wittenberg University

    • Wittenberg University is located in Springfield, Ohio and offers a bachelor's degree through its biology and chemistry departments in biochemistry and molecular biology. The program focuses on the intersection of biology and chemistry and also the study of dynamic cellular systems, regulation of gene expression, and the chemistry of the metabolic pathways in living things. The courses for this program include concepts of biology, molecular biology, the cell, models of chemical systems, chemical structure and analysis, organic chemistry and biochemistry. The program costs $34,874 per year as of 2011.
