How to Get Admitted to SJSU

San Jose State University in San Jose, California, is part of the California State University system. It requires all students applying from high school or an equivalent program have a C- or better grade point average. Those students must also submit SAT or ACT scores, and California residents must meet a "minimum eligibility index" based on grades and SAT or ACT scores. The school does warn that it receives more applications than it has room for, so you can expect some competition.

Instructions

    • 1

Complete the California State University Undergraduate Application for Admission. The application is at the SJSU website under Admission Application. It can be downloaded into a PDF format if you prefer to mail it. Applications are also available online at the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Supplemental Application. Pre-admission counseling for undergraduates is available through Student Outreach and Recruitment at sjsu.edu/soar.

    • 2

Return the application early in the application submission period listed on the website. These dates will change from year to year, but the university will cut off admissions when it has enough students. The website lists which campuses are closed and open, and what majors are available. Online applications are sent directly to the college. In 2011, the fee for each application was $55.

Transfer students must follow the same process, but must check with SJSU about what courses it will accept for credit. Transfers must have at least a 2.0 gpa, and students transferring with at least 60 units of credit have the best chance to be admitted to a CSU campus. San Jose State does not admit lower-division transfers or second baccalaureate applications. Check the website assist.org for more information.
