Check the NYU Film School site for admissions deadlines. In 2011, the deadline for all graduate programs was December 1 for the next academic year. All applications must include proof that you took the Graduate Record Examination regardless of your educational background.
Make short movies or get work on professional productions. The NYU school requires a resume that includes work experience related to film.
Prepare a "statement of purpose" explaining your interest in the school and the profession. It must include explanations of your academic and professional experience related to film, and what you hope to get out of the Tisch program. The state must be two to three pages long and double-spaced.
Write an essay about film, television, video, new media, or a subject related to the arts or humanities. The essay must be at least 15 pages long and no more than 20 pages long. According to the Tisch site, its purpose is to reflect the applicant's critical, theoretical and historical thinking on the subjects important to the film school.
Attach all of the essays to the online application at the Tisch website. You must also have three people recommend you to the school. Those letters must be submitted through the online system, while academic transcripts must be sent in one package to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
