Admission candidates seeking to enter LRU as freshmen must graduate from high school with at least four units of English; three units of math, including geometry, algebra and algebra II; one unit of science; and two years of a foreign language. The school requires that candidates have at least four units of college preparatory classes for each year of high school. Candidates seeking to enter the school's nursing programs must also have taken a year's worth of chemistry courses.
College students wishing to transfer to Lenoir-Rhyne must have a cumulative grade-point average of a 2.0 -- a C average. For transfer students who have finished less than 30 (semester) or 45 (quarter) hours of college work, the college will review high school transcripts and records when reviewing a candidate's admissions materials. Transfer students must provide the college with complete transcripts from all colleges previously attended. Students planning on re-enrolling at LRU after a period of absence should follow these transfer-student procedures.
Students applying to LRU must submit transcripts -- from either high school or college, depending on age or past college work -- as well as SAT scores, ACT scores and, for college seniors, a list of courses they are taking during their senior years. Applicants can also fill out a scholarship packet for financial aid. As of 2011, there is an application fee of $35. The application itself can be submitted online. There are no essays or letters of recommendation needed for undergraduate, transfer or international student LRU applications.
The university also offers a variety of graduate school programs, including a master's of science in athletic training; a master's of business administration; a master's of arts in counseling; a master's of arts in language development and learning; a master's of arts in liberal studies; a master's of public health and a master's of science in occupational therapy. Students can also attend LRU to receive teacher and school counselor licensing. Each program has specific requirements that can be found on the university's admissions homepage. Almost all of these programs require GRE and/or MAT scores, essays and letters of recommendation. Admissions for these programs have stricter deadlines, and certain graduate programs may require recommendation letters or essays.
International students seeking a degree from LRU must submit either a TOEFL, ACT or SAT score to the admissions department. Acceptable TOEFL scores are a 550 for a paper version, 213 for a computer-based version or 79 for an Internet-based version. Students must also submit translated transcripts of high school and previous college courses. These applicants also need to submit a completed application, a student health/immunization record and a certificate of financial responsibility. These materials can be found at the LRU admissions website. As with a conventional application, a fee of $35 is required.
International students seeking to study at LRU for a semester as part of the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration or from the University of Magdeburg-Stendal will need to complete an application, submit translated transcripts from previous colleges and submit either an SAT, ACT or TOEFL score. The minimum TOEFL score requirements are the same as those for international applicants. A student immunization form, the $35 fee and a certificate of financial responsibility is also required of exchange applicants.
