Choose your major and type of degree. While some careers require very specific, high-level degrees, some occupations require only general education or certificates. Decide if you want to attend a traditional college or take online classes.
Call admissions counselors from at least two colleges you wish to attend. Ask about your preferred degree program, admission guidelines and available financial aid.
Request copies of previous school transcripts to be sent to your school of choice. Fill out an application and send in any required documents.
Secure financial aid. Discuss your financial aid options with your school's financial aid counselor. Fill out the online Free Application for Federal Student at fasfa.ed.gov. Apply for school-based and private scholarships. You may also need to apply for private loans.
Prioritize your schedule. As an adult returning to school, you have many responsibilities, including family and work. Budget your time to include social and family activities along with homework.
