Double-check with the school that you meet all the eligibility requirements. No matter how closely you follow the application procedure, if you are not eligible, you can't receive financial aid. The eligibility requirements include being in good academic standing and not in default on certain types of loans. Note that certain forms of financial aid may have further eligibility requirements, such as having a B average in particular classes in order to qualify for the HOPE scholarship.
Fill out and send, either via mail or online and by the deadline for that year, a "Free Application for Federal Student Aid," also known as a FAFSA. Online applications are available at the FAFSA and GACollege411 websites. Note that the school code for Savannah Technical College is 005618. The FAFSA site allows you to save and correct your application, and check its progress, and the GACollege411 website includes information on the HOPE program, which is available to Georgia residents.
Wait to receive a form called a Student Aid Report. You should receive this within two to six weeks, depending on if you mailed the FAFSA or submitted it online.
Bring the Student Aid Report to the Student Success Center after you've reviewed it. Note that both the Savannah and Effingham campuses have Student Success Centers.
Investigate the scholarships available to you. These require separate applications and have their own deadlines and requirements. Be aware that you still have to fill out the FAFSA form.
