How to Go to School While Receiving SSD & SSI

The U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) administers programs that help elderly, blind and disabled people. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provides a standard monthly cash payment to those who meet disability criteria and have limited income and resources. Social Security Disability (SSD) also aids elderly or disabled people, but the payment is based on the recipient's work history. Recipients may wonder if they may continue to receive benefits while working or pursuing higher education. In fact, SSA encourages recipients of both programs to obtain self-sufficiency though school, work or training programs. SSA may even provide supplemental assistance to facilitate the completion of school.
