Fashion Merchandising Master's Degrees

Fashion merchandising involves distributing apparel and accessory merchandise to retail stores, maintaining a design for marketing purposes and performing fashion product analysis. Individuals who wish to pursue a career in fashion merchandising can earn a graduate degree at one of many fashion programs across the United States. Degree programs will vary from college to college.
  1. Master of Professional Studies

    • Students of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, New York, can earn a Master of Professional Studies in Global Fashion Management. The program is designed for students already working in fashion merchandising who wish to learn more about the field. Pratt Institute's Master of Professional Studies in Design Management is less fashion-specific than the program at FIT. However, students will learn how to manage and maintain a merchandise design image in order to build value for a business, such as a fashion house.

    Master in Family and Consumer Sciences

    • Many state universities offer a Master in Family and Consumer Sciences under which a concentration in fashion merchandising is available. Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, is one such program. Students study textiles, dimensions of clothing, clothing construction, fashion product analysis and international apparel markets. California State University at Long Beach also offers a Master in Family and Consumer Sciences. Courses are offered in quality control in apparel design and merchandising, fashion product development and the cultural basis of textile and apparel design.

    Master of Fine Arts

    • The Academy of Art University, in San Francisco, California, offers a Master of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in fashion merchandising. Students will learn to establish and work toward financial goals in a fashion business, understand relationships between key points in a supply chain and identify and respond to trends in fashion. This program is uniquely offered at the Academy of Art University.

    Master of Business Administration

    • Lim College, in New York, New York, offers a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in fashion merchandising and entrepreneurship. Full-time students may complete the program in 12 months. Students can take internships with local fashion houses or those based in London, Paris and Milan. Courses focus on advanced concepts and theories of management and leadership within the fashion industry. This program is uniquely offered at Lim College.
