Clayton College of Natural Health is one of the first colleges to offer online courses for distance learning for alternative medical subjects. For almost 30 years, Clayton has offered natural health distance learning. The college began as an offshoot of an herbal company. It offers courses for those who are seeking to make a career change, wishing to further their existing career or for learning how to take better care of self and family. Master's and Bachelor of Science degrees as well as certificates are offered in alternative healthcare. Certificates include courses in iridology, theory and practice, family herbalist, companion animal studies and natural wellness studies. The Bachelor of Science degrees require a minimum of 120 semester credit hours.

The Everglades University offers online and on-campus classes for alternative medicine. There are three university locations in the Florida Everglades. A Bachelor of Science in Alternative Medicine degreeh is available through online classes. The alternative medicine courses include erbology and botany, traditional Chinese medicine and homeopathy. Everglades University offers these courses to assist existing healthcare professionals who wish to broaden their knowledge base and incorporate alternative medicine into their practices. Students must complete 123 credit hours to earn a degree in alternative medicine.
