Christian Colleges and Universities in the Southeast

Christian colleges appeal to students for different reasons. Some like the community atmosphere, while others attend because Christian colleges offer degrees such as biblical or theological studies. The opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and receive a faith-based education give some students the incentive to choose a Christian college over a secular institution. There are a number of high-quality Christian colleges that students can attend in the American Southeast.
  1. Asbury University

    • Located in Wilmore, Kentucky, Asbury University is a Wesleyan school that enrolls approximately 1,300 students each year. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and offers degree programs in a wide array of academic fields. The university consists of four primary academic divisions that include the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, the School of Education and the School of Communication Arts. Academic departments within the schools include those in the fields of art, behavioral sciences, Bible, business, Christian ministries and missions, communication arts, education, English, graduate education and social work, health and physical education, history, math, music, the natural sciences and world languages.

    Southeastern University

    • Located in Lakeland, Florida, Southeastern University is a college in the Pentecostal Christian tradition. The university, which has about 3,000 students, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Southeastern attempts to integrate its Christian heritage into every aspect of its academic curriculum whenever possible. The university consists of 10 different undergraduate divisions and five different graduate divisions. These include the arts and sciences, behavioral and social sciences, communication, foreign language, music, natural science and math, business and legal studies, history, education and Christian ministries.

    Bryan College

    • Founded in 1930, Bryan College was named for the famous American statesman and lawyer William Jennings Bryan, who served as the chief prosecutor in the famous Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925. The trial was held in Dayton, Tennessee, where the college is located. Bryan College was founded on Christian fundamentalist ideals, of which Bryan was a staunch defender. The college enrolls approximately 1,150 students annually and offers students a small community atmosphere. Bryan offers a full array of undergraduate study programs that include the likes of biblical studies, liberal arts, math, exercise and health science and theater. Bryan also has a working relationship with Vanderbilt University in which students that want to pursue studies in nursing can attend Bryan for part of their education and finish the program through Vanderbilt.
