Southeast Law Schools

When most people think of prestigious law schools, they envision schools such as Harvard or Yale in the northeast, or Stanford on the west coast. It is often forgotten that the southeast region of the United States is also home to a number of established law schools that pride themselves on providing law students with a solid legal education.
  1. Emory University School of Law

    • Emory University School of Law is located in the heart of Atlanta and serves approximately 700 enrolled students annually. The law school offers Juris Doctor, Master of Laws and Doctor of Juridical Science degrees, as well as four joint degree programs in divinity, theological studies, public health and business administration. Students have the opportunity to participate in law clinics and research projects in specialized topics including environmental law, dispute resolution, international law and juvenile delinquency.

    Vanderbilt University Law School

    • Located in Nashville, the law school at Vanderbilt University Law School offers three degree programs including the Juris Doctor, Master of Laws and a joint PhD program in Law and Economics. Students may also complete joint degrees in public policy, medicine, business, Latin American studies, divinity or theological studies. A summer study program in Venice, Italy, allows law students to study law from an international perspective.

    Tulane University Law School

    • The law school at Tulane University is the twelfth-oldest in the United States and offers a unique curriculum that encompasses both civil and common law. Located in New Orleans, the school offers both Juris Doctor and Masters of Law degrees, with specializations in environmental law, maritime law, and international and comparative law. The school requires students to engage in pro bono legal work as a requirement for graduation.

    The University of Mississippi School of Law

    • The University of Mississippi School of Law in Oxford offers Juris Doctor degrees with certificates in criminal law and remote sensing, air and space law. There are a number of specialized programs in which law students may participate, including a study abroad program in Cambridge, England in 2010, a prosecution externship program and the Mississippi Innocence Project.

    The University of Alabama School of Law

    • The University of Alabama School of Law in Tuscaloosa offers both Juris Doctor and Masters of Law degree programs with joint degrees available in business administration, public administration, taxation, economics and political science. Students may also pursue certificates in public interest or participate in one of the school's six clinical programs in elder law, domestic violence law, criminal law, civil law, capital defense law or community development.
