MedVance Institute's Practical Nursing Program trains students to provide one-on-one patient care in medical facilities. The curriculum includes classroom studies, laboratory work and hands-on clinical experience in a medical facility. The program prepares students to work in inpatient and outpatient clinics, physician offices, long-term care facilities and hospital administrative offices. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be prepared to take the practical nursing licensing exam in order to receive professional designation as a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
To qualify for the Practical Nursing Program, applicants must submit high school and college transcripts, complete an application and schedule an appointment with an admissions representative to determine their suitability for the program. In addition to the general admission requirements for the school, the Practical Nursing Program requires that applicants have an interest in medicine, the ability to work well with others and handle difficult situations, and excellent communication skills. Due to the nature of the field, applicants also need to have an aptitude for science, as there is coursework in such areas as anatomy, biology and chemistry.
While the Vocational Nursing Program is not suitable for those who wish to pursue state licensing, the program offers training necessary to work in a medical facility. Coursework provides basic concepts and insights in patient care, routine and supervised. Students gain hands-on supervision and direction from medical professionals in a clinical setting and are trained in handling and monitoring medical equipment.
The Vocational Nursing Program is geared toward individuals who want to work in the medical industry in an entry-level position. Therefore, this program requires that applicants demonstrate an ability to work well under pressure, a positive personality and the skill to work with various types of medical equipment. This program requires applicants to have completed some high school coursework. While neither a high school diploma nor a GED is a prerequisite for this particular program, applicants must have taken basic math and science courses prior to entry to prepare for the material that they will learn over the course of the program. Additionally, although it is not a requirement for the program, prior work experience in the field will weigh favorably in an applicant's application and should be included when applying to the program.
